The method in one picture
Alternate brisk walking with easy walking. Brisk means you can still talk, but not easily. About 30 minutes, a few days a week.

Japanese walking, or interval walking training, comes from research at Shinshu University in Japan, where studies with middle-aged and older adults compared it with continuous walking. NipponWalk is an independent app and isn't affiliated with the university. It's a timer and coach, not medical advice. Check with your doctor before starting a new exercise routine.
Built for real walks
Works with your phone locked
Every pace switch is announced on time, in your pocket, with the screen off. That's the whole point.
Your music keeps playing
Voice cues gently lower your music, then bring it right back. Podcasts pause and resume.
Lock screen and Dynamic Island
See FAST or EASY and the countdown at a glance, without unlocking your phone.
Warm-up and cool-down built in
A complete session from the first step to the last, not just the intervals.
Streaks and calories, free
Your daily streak and estimated calories are never locked behind a paywall.
Saved to Apple Health
Each walk is saved as a workout, including its fast and easy intervals.
Be one of the first walkers
We're inviting a small group to test NipponWalk on real walks before launch.
